From the Desk of . . . . . If you haven’t been to Mountainview to visit this summer, then I would highly encourage you to schedule a visit soon. Yes, we want you to come and see all of your friends and catch up on recent events, however, the main reason we want you to come is to see our latest addition to our beautiful grounds. We are delighted to have a wonderful new waterfall and water park located to the left of the hallway leading to Westside Gardens. This marvelous project was the inspiration of Mr. Johnny Quinn our Assistant Food Service Director. Johnny has led this effort from the beginning and he has been assisted along the way by many, however, we must mention Mr. Keith Trout of the dietary department, Mrs. Emma Lawing our Medical Day Care Director along with Mrs. Nancy Bell our Food Service Director. We are so proud of these staff members for their many hours of hard work. We also want to thank Mr. Lynn Parker, Board Member, for his contribution of the largest fish in the pond. We have named him "LP" in honor of Mr. Parker and trust me he is something to see. Sitting atop the waterfall is a beautiful log cabin also constructed by Mr. Quinn. It is built to scale including a front porch and a rock fireplace and chimney. Johnny went so far as to include a solar panel on the roof of the cabin, which powers two lights in the cabin quite visible at night through the windows. Through the years many have asked us, "Where is the mountain that you view at Mountainview." Our answer has been a brief history of our facility dating back to our old building on New Cut Road where you could see the mountains in the distance. But no more, now we are able to take them to Mr. Quinn’s mountain for their viewing pleasure. Thank you Mr. Johnny Quinn for all of your efforts in forever changing the landscape at Mountainview. Please visit with us. Wilson K. Dillard, Administrator Top

NEWS FROM ACTIVITIES The lazy hazy days of summer are here and our attention turns to vacations, rest, recreation and relaxation. These are memories in the making. Here at Mountainview we are grateful that during this time of year that administration and staff are able to keep everything as it relates to our Elders running smoothly through much work and flexibility. Our hats are off to those of you that chose to work on holidays and may not take time off so that our Elders remain well cared for. We have really enjoyed the produce from the gardens this summer. Our pond is almost complete with beautiful water foliage and gold fish. Our second National Night Out which is a kick off for the official National Night Out was held on July 28tth and was a huge success. We are looking forward to our Western Day which will be held on Friday, September 30th. We hope that everyone is having a safe and wonderful summer. Gloria Crocker, Activities Top

A Note from Westside Gardens. . . Westside Gardens planted their first garden this summer, we wanted things to grow outside just like they were growing inside our neighborhood and there is a garden on the other side of our neighborhood that for years has been the talk of the town! We thought that was wonderful and then we started thinking our residents in our neighborhood had a long way to go for a ripe tomato and peppers. So the staff got together and decided that they would grow their own. So they planted the hot and sweet peppers, the tomatoes, green beans, squash and cucumbers. Things went great at first, the ground looked good and the plants and seeds started to take off. It went down hill from there until the residents that sit at the window looking out at our gazebo started giving us advice as to how our garden should grow. Well needless to say they knew better than us what we should be doing to the garden, two months later we picked our first sweet pepper when we were outside having lunch. Our residents ate them right off the vine. As I watched them enjoying the fruits of our labor I thought about why we planted the peppers, we had one resident in mind. Last year she would always get someone whether it was staff, another resident or a visitor to go to the big garden and pick peppers and bring them back to her to eat with her meals. Ms. Mae Willie Thompson, I think she is proudly looking down telling us "Don’t pick them to soon"! We miss you! Keep your garden growing! Westside Gardens Top
A Note from Eastside Village: Eastside Village would like welcome our new residents, Mr. Marion King, Mr. Joseph Creel and Ms. Annie Moore to our village. Also we would like to welcome Dana Scrugg as a new staff member in our Housekeeping Department. Our condolences to the families of Ms. Lee Ann Brown and Mr. Otis Therrell and Mr. Thomas Keenan who passed away recently. We will miss these residents and their families. Katy Ballenger’s first great grandson was born on May 17, 2005. She really enjoys going to see him on the weekends. Our prayers are with Bonnie Cohen, CNA as she goes through this difficult time. Please keep her in your prayers. Linda Johnson, daughter of John Lee, donated a red, white and blue tin man for our village to celebrate the Fourth of July. It is hanging over the nurses’ station. Come by and see it. We welcome all visitors. Please stop by and visit with us soon. Eastside Village Top
